Guitars
Repairs
Our approach to guitar repairs
All work on your treasured instrument will be attended to with great care, professionalism and attention to detail. Playability, sound and the finished appearance of your guitar are all carefully considered during the course of the work. Keeping the original nature of guitars is always taken seriously especially so in the case of expensive, old, vintage and rare instruments. However we happily take on guitars and bass guitars of any value and if any work is likely to be uneconomic, we will discuss this with you before proceeding. Also, should significant unforeseen faults be noticed during the course of repairs, we would let you know before we continue with any more work.
Range of work
Of course, this can cover a great variety of jobs but here is a short summary:-
Fretwork (levelling, re-shaping, etc.)
Fret replacement (part or complete)
Nut work
Bridge and tremolo work
Tuners (repair or replacement)
Damage (acoustic and electric, e.g. broken headstocks, etc.)
Electrical problems and modifications (annoying noises, hum, things that do not work properly or at all!)
Pickup replacement, electro-acoustic systems, "active" circuits, etc.)
Finishing - this is normally carried out off site; covers colour changes, re-finishing due to damage, etc.
So if your guitar needs fixing, please check us out!
Set-ups and Servicing
Give your guitar the benefit of a really good set-up!
Our set-ups are professionally carried out and can transform a guitar into an instrument that is easier to play, sounds cleaner and is in tune. This applies to instruments of any age or price. Brand new guitars or any guitar recently acquired is unlikely to be set up optimally because the time that can be given to each instrument is normally restricted and the seller is unlikely to know the individual customers requirements.
The procedure is more subtle and detailed than it appears to many people but as a result your guitar will be adjusted to give the best possible set-up to suit you and annoying little problems are often sorted out as a result. If anything is noticed that requires more work and time we will let you know before going ahead. It is useful to supply us with a new set of strings of the gauges that you normally use and the guitar will be set up accordingly.
(It may not be necessary to supply new strings for bass guitars if they have been changed recently).
Amplifiers
Valve amplifier servicing
You depend on your guitar amp to give its best performance at every gig, so why not endeavour to keep it that way?
While valve amps are generally the best for electric guitars, they are more likely to de-grade over a period of time than the solid-state types and need to be maintained.
A basic summary of a typical service is:-
Cleaning, mechanical check (loose parts, chassis, cabinet, speaker)
Visual check of any mods/repairs carried out in the past
Check problems with contacts (valve holders, switches, etc.)
Change any valves as requested and/or found faulty
Check output stage bias
Should any repair work be needed, we will let you know first before proceeding.
